Should you have a Custom Radius put on your skates?

Believe it or not the answer is usually yes. Every skater is different and has his or her own skating style. By adjusting a skater's blade center point, lie and contour, maximum results are achived. A poprer Custom Radius will help a skater to be less-fatigued on the ice and have more control.

So, what exactly is a Custom Radius?

Well, it's a few things...

1. Identifing a skaters center or balance point .

2. Adjusting the lie or angle of the skate blade. This is usually done to accomodate the skaters personal preference for the blade feel "forward", "neutral" or "backward." For example, ahockey defensman usually prefers a "neutral" or "defensive" radius in order to be able to pivot from forward to backward skating easier; and so that he or she has more blade contact on the ice toward the middle of the blade which helps with pivots and backward skating.

3. Finally, the profile or overall shape of the blade.

All of these elements combined, will help the skater to achieve more balance, control, speed and overall enjoyment.
